Community Member Spotlight: Jeremy & Chelsea Olson

Jeremy and Chelsea Olson have been outstanding volunteer youth sports coaches for the Airway Heights Parks & Recreation since Fall 2021. Their journey began when they noticed a call for soccer coaches while signing up their oldest child. Despite initial doubts, their commitment to ensuring all children could play led them to step up. To start they combined Jeremy’s soccer experience and knowledge with Chelsea’s background in coaching youth ice hockey.

Their first season was an amazing success, marked by enthusiasm from both players and their families. The joy of witnessing children achieve their goals, whether scoring their first point or mastering a skill, has been a driving force for them. Jeremy and Chelsea have fulfilled Airway Heights Parks & Rec Youth Sports mission by fostering a supportive environment where teamwork and enjoyment are priorities. They emphasize that playing well is secondary to having fun and learning.

Over numerous seasons, they transitioned to coaching both of their kids in different age groups. By creating positive youth sports experiences for the youth they have coached, they’ve built strong connections with youth sports families in the community, often times leading to families requesting them as coaches each season. Their impact extends beyond the field, creating a network of friendships and promoting family involvement.

When asked, What advice would you give future coaches? The Olson’s said, “Embrace patience and prioritize fun.”

The Olson’s passion and commitment to creating a positive experience make them exemplary role models in the community, enriching the lives of countless young athletes.

THANK YOU!
