My Rec Story: Lynne Massie
At 82, Lynne is a shining example of perseverance and vitality. A Rec Center member since 2021, Lynne’s journey to better health began when she started feeling the toll of aging—struggling with balance and mobility, and even experiencing a scary fall. Determined to take control of her health, she decided to check out the Rec Center, but at first, she wasn’t sure where to begin. She started with water walking, treadmill sessions, and riding the recumbent bike, but soon realized she needed more to see the results she desired.
That’s when she turned to personal training, and Fitness Supervisor Jared was there to help. After a fitness assessment, Jared introduced her to new strength exercises, including using resistance bands, squats with TRX straps, and sled pushes on the turf. Her dedication quickly paid off.
Lynne even booked a three-week trip to Europe with her daughter, knowing she needed to improve her strength and balance for the extensive walking and unpredictable terrain ahead. In northern France, she achieved an incredible milestone—climbing 100 stairs to the top of the Abbey on Mont. St. Michel!
Over a year and a half later, Lynne continues her personal training with Jared, feeling stronger than ever. She can carry heavy groceries, lift objects around her home, and stays active working full-time. She refuses to succumb to the recliner, and credits the Rec Center for giving her the tools to age with strength, confidence, and independence.
Lynne is a true inspiration, proving that age is no barrier to living life to the fullest.
Keep going, Lynne! We can’t wait to see what’s next.
