Edwin “Goodie” Magaña
Gyms, weights, and working out have not always been a part of Edwin “Goodie” Magaña’s life. Growing up, Magaña spent the early part of his life involved in gangs in South Central Los Angeles, which led to his incarceration, and ultimately a new passion in fitness. “My love for fitness came while I was in prison,” Magaña explains “during my time I found working out as a way to stay focused on my health, respecting others, and how I conduct myself.” An addictive personality, Magaña says, is what has kept him passionate about staying healthy, long after being released.
Since moving to Airway Heights, and joining the Rec Center, Magaña has found a place he refers to as a second home. “The Rec Center is such a welcoming place for me and my family to come and enjoy.” Edwin can often be found lifting weights, or working out with his son Junior (16), who currently is exceling as a young boxer. Outside of working out, Edwin is a local Barber, a career that allows him to meet a variety people, many of whom have helped him renew his life, and stay focused on his family, his community, and his health.
